Copper Branch
The guests of 14 Horses restaurant will notice subtle copper branches on the rough walls of the main dining hall. This installation is the newest creative collaboration between Senatorių Pasažas and visual artist Eglė Pilkauskaitė where she explores the connection between chemical processes and nature.
What is it?
It is not a branch from the forest. It is an artistic experiment with chemical copper growing processes. The buds and spikes on the copper branch were formed as crystals in the process of electrolysis.
Electricity formed something that looks like a piece of nature to a human eye. How did the artist influence this process?
Like in nature, the processes take their course. The chemical reaction between electricity and copper grows crystals that get stuck to the surface of the copper stick, like a mould. However, the artist controls when to start the process and when to call it to the end. It is pretty similar to the human relationship with nature. The nature has its inertia flow, but the human has tools to control some natural processes.
Can we create beauty in this nature and human interaction?
It depends on us: to control or to let go.
At Senatorių Pasažas, you can find more works by Eglė Pilkauskaitė. Her monumental sculpture Anamnesis decorates the inner courtyard, Wind Mirrors complete the interior design of Nineteen18 restaurant. The sculpture Soil Surface reflects everything that we believe in Senatorių Pasažas: our relationship with soil that feeds us.
